Written by Alex

The scene: dinnertime at a vegetarian "diner" in the strip of local shops near the apartment.

"I'm having trouble deciding...what's in this 'Russian Sandwich' "?

"Fruit"

[Surely he must mean vegetables. Maybe with some Russian dressing. That would be nice.]

"OK, I"ll have the Russian Sandwich."

10 minutes later

I am presented with a sandwich in classic white-bread (no crust) double-decker club style, cut properly into four triangles. The sandwich consists of:

  • Pineapple
  • Watermelon
  • Tomato (technically a fruit)
  • Cucumber
  • Some kind of neon pink sauce
  • A generous dusting of coconut shavings
  • And completed by a small dish of sweet and spicy dipping sauce

Several lesons learned:

  • People know the difference between fruit and vegetables.
  • Fruit sandwiches are delicious.
  • Fruit sandwiches have something to do with Russia.
